A love letter from Jitte: What our Surf & Yoga Retreat gave her

At every Surf & Yoga Retreat, we sit down with the guests who feel called to share and ask them what this week has brought into their lives. We love sharing these real stories, because they are what truly make our community real. Not just reviews or aesthetic social media moments, but honest stories from real experiences, lived and felt. And so, here is the story of the beautiful Jitte 💛✨

Surfgirls, Taghazout

What was the moment this week when you felt that this Surf & Yoga Retreat was exactly what you needed?

Honestly, I think it was already within the first few hours 😅 I arrived in the afternoon together with a few other girls, while the rest of the group only arrived later in the evening at the villa. We received such a warm welcome, with delicious snacks and a tour of the villa. Because we were still a small group before everyone else arrived, we were able to relax by the pool all afternoon, play games, and get to know each other through really fun conversations. It immediately felt so nice to be there. From that moment on, I already knew it was going to be an amazing week, full of good vibes, new experiences, sunshine, the ocean, and great food 🥘

How did you experience the combination of surfing and yoga during the retreat? What did it do for your body and energy?

I think the yoga was a really beautiful addition. I had never done yoga before, but in combination with surfing I found it very valuable to loosen up and relax your muscles. We were in the water almost every day, and you use so many more muscles than you initially realize (which you definitely felt the next morning 🫣). For me, yoga was the perfect way to start the day or to end the day so I was completely ready for another day of surfing.

What made Taghazout and Morocco such a great place for you to experience this retreat?

I honestly thought Morocco was amazing. The weather was fantastic, but also the culture, the people, and the overall feeling the country gives you really stayed with me. Even a few months later, I still find myself wanting to go back again. Taghazout was such a nice place where all kinds of different people came together. It had a really relaxed vibe and truly felt a bit like a “home base.” I felt comfortable there very quickly and really enjoyed all the spots that Taghazout and the rest of Morocco had to offer.

• How did you experience the guidance from Mehdi and Roos, both in surfing and outside of it?

Mehdi and Roos organized and guided the retreat so well. From all the planned trips to the surfing sessions I enjoyed everything so much. I honestly don’t have anything to add or improve. You are both incredibly welcoming and wonderful people to experience this retreat with, and you truly shaped this week. Your energy, enthusiasm, and motivation were contagious and created such a great atmosphere for the retreat.

And how did you like surfing with a local and enjoying the food cooked by Mehdi’s mother?

The surfing was also amazing. I’m a beginner and had never really surfed before. But we were helped so well, which made it possible to make steady progress. I was so happy with my small surf victories that week, even if sometimes I only managed to stand up once in a whole day 🤪. I also really loved watching the other girls and the locals surf. Sometimes I would just float in the water for a while watching them, and then I’d try again myself.

I’ve already mentioned the food several times, and that’s because I still think about it quite often 😂 Maybe it’s because I love good food, or maybe it’s because of Aisha’s amazing cooking skills. Probably a combination of both. I’m lucky that back home I have a small café that serves Moroccan dishes too, otherwise I might have already booked another flight. I think it’s pretty clear: I absolutely loved the Moroccan cuisine, tried many new things, and of course Aisha is the best person to prepare these delicious dishes.

Morocco

What feeling are you leaving with after this week? And what would you say to someone who is hesitating to book this retreat?

Saying goodbye was actually quite difficult, and I even had to shed a small tear. But that says enough about how wonderful the week was. I truly enjoyed the group and the retreat. Together with a friend I stayed a few extra days in Tamraght, so saying goodbye to Morocco was postponed for a little while. We had a few more really great days and even met up again with two other girls from the retreat who were also staying longer, which was super fun. We went surfing again, explored Tamraght more, and even went back to Taghazout for a day to enjoy it a little longer.

I’m incredibly grateful for all the beautiful moments, the great vibes, and the people I got to meet. I booked this retreat last minute and quite impulsively together with a friend, but I haven’t regretted it for a single moment. So if you’re doubting: don’t. Just book it! 🤍🌊✨
