Surfing in Morocco is becoming more and more famous, and Taghazout is now the place to be for surfers of every level. From complete beginners to advanced surfers, this coastline truly has it all. As a beginner, you can learn the steps of this amazing sport with Mehdi, who will guide and support you from your very first wave. If you’re already an intermediate or advanced surfer, Mehdi can help you improve your skills, turning, reading the waves, positioning, and of course, having fun in the water. Book your surflessons or surfquiding here! Taghazout is world-famous because of its huge variety of surf spots along the coastline. And since Mehdi is a local and I (Roos) have been living here for 1.5 years, we’d love to share our 5 favorite surf spots so you can always chase the best waves.

1. Mysteries Point

By far our favorite surf spot in Taghazout is Mysteries.

This beautiful beach break works best on mid to high tide and is located just to the right of the legendary Anchor Point. Surrounded by stunning cliffs, it’s not only great for surfing but also for enjoying nature. If you go early in the morning, chances are you’ll be alone in the water. Beginners should only surf Mysteries when the swell is small, on bigger swells it can get a little tricky. But with small to medium conditions, it offers some of the best waves in the area for all levels.

Bonus: it’s only a 20-minute walk or a 3-minute drive from Taghazout town.

2. Panorama Point

Panorama Point is our go-to spot. It’s one of the best places for beginners to learn the basics. The wide beach offers plenty of space, so there are almost always waves to catch. With the right conditions (mid to high tide), you can enjoy a long right-hander breaking from the point. Be aware of other beginners in the lineup, and don’t expect empty lineups, unless you go early around 9 AM. For an easy, fun, and quick surf session, Panorama is perfect. And the best part? It’s only a 5-minute walk from Taghazout, no transport needed.

3. Camel Beach

Camel Beach is about a 10-minute drive north of Taghazout and is perfect for bigger groups, or surprisingly empty lineups. When it’s a bit bigger in Taghazout, Camel Beach often delivers slow, smooth, and playful waves, working well on both high and low tide. On the right corner, the waves can get steeper, and on perfect days, you might even find a barrel. There’s a big chance you’ll have the spot almost to yourself, this place is still a bit of a hidden gem.

4. Anchor point!

Anchor Point is considered one of the top 5 surf spots in the world.

The only reason it’s not our personal favorite? I (Roos) have never surfed it, hihi! This powerful right-hander is not beginner-friendly. You should only surf it with a local, especially the first few times, because the rocks and currents can be sketchy. But if you know what you’re doing and manage to catch a wave, it’s truly one of the best rides on the planet.

5. Imsouane – The Bay

About one hour north of Taghazout lies the beautiful town of Imsouane, our second favorite place in Morocco. Imsouane is famous for having the longest waves in Africa, and that’s exactly why we love it. The rides are incredibly long, making it perfect for practicing technique, flow, and longboarding. The gentle, slow-breaking waves are ideal for beginners, while intermediates can really work on their skills. It’s absolutely worth visiting, whether for a day trip or a few nights. We also offer day trips to Imsouane!

More to Discover

Between Taghazout and Imsouane, there are still many more surf spots waiting to be explored. These are simply the ones we personally love and know best (except Anchor Point). If you head south to Tamraght, Aourir, or Anza, you’ll find even more incredible waves. Join one of our Surf & Yoga Retreats or our day trips to experience these spots and discover the real Morocco together with Mehdi. We would love to catch some waves together soon!

Sea yaaa,

Mehdi & Roos
